Artificial Intelligence in Gaming: Unveiling the Buzz: an analysis by GLI Joseph Bunevith

(Lakewood).- Let’s face it. Gaming news and content are full of buzzwords. In the last ten years, we’ve heard about eSports, cashless gaming, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, the metaverse, crash games, social casinos, etc. I’m reasonably sure eSports has been the next big thing in casino gaming for 15 years. Yes, sure, eSports has made some ground and certainly stepped in when all the sports were offline during the shutdowns of COVID-19. But it’s not in the news as much anymore, as the buzz is a bit more than the bite.

Artificial Intelligence in Gaming: Unveiling the Buzz: an analysis by GLI Joseph Bunevith

But what’s all this talk about AI? Is it just another casino industry buzzword? No, it’s not. AI is not just a buzzword; it’s a game-changer. The technology is revolutionizing the gaming industry, from enhancing player experiences to optimizing game development and operations to regulators using it to analyze responsible gaming concerns, and the list goes on.

So, this time, it’s different? Yes. Why? There are several reasons.

  • AI is not a stranger to us. You’ve been using it the whole time. Just like I am now, as Word checks my spelling and grammar, it has assisted us since the early days of computers and the internet. The only difference now is that the recent versions of AI, which have emerged in the last two years, are taking its usage to a whole new level, making it more visible and impactful in our gaming experiences. So, while it may seem new, AI is a familiar friend in the gaming world.
  • AI is not just a theoretical concept; it’s a practical tool that touches all those buzzwords above. For instance, in eSports, AI can suggest what game you might like next based on your preferences. If your operation uses digital payments, AI can help track AML and responsible gaming concerns by analyzing transaction patterns. Are you running a social casino? AI can help you find the optimal timing to send customers a promotional email based on their activity. The versatility of AI in gaming is truly impressive, and its potential is only beginning to be explored.
  • We are just getting started. AI models are constantly learning, adapting, and evolving as I type this. They know more about betting behaviors, customers’ interests, financial transactions, and responsible gaming actions. And that is just a quick list; there is much more and will be more that there is no resisting, as it will be a part of everything we do. AI’s continuous learning and evolution reassure us of its potential and adaptability in the gaming industry.

Study up. We are all going for the ride. It will always be best to learn the most now so we can help steer the direction of using AI ethically and responsibly. As AI becomes more integrated into our gaming experiences, our active involvement in shaping its ethical use becomes crucial. It has much more bite than its buzz.
